La concesi\u00f3n de una patente otorga un monopolio legal hasta el cumplimiento del vig\u00e9simo aniversario de la fecha de presentaci\u00f3n, sin perjuicio de la protecci\u00f3n provisional conferida desde la fecha de la publicaci\u00f3n de la solicitud. Los productos farmac\u00e9uticos y fitosanitarios pueden gozar de periodos adicionales de protecci\u00f3n mediante los denominados certificados complementarios de protecci\u00f3n.<\/p><p>Los modelos de utilidad (a veces referidos como peque\u00f1as patentes) tienen una duraci\u00f3n de 10 a\u00f1os y amparan invenciones consistentes en dar a un producto una contiguraci\u00f3n, estructura\no patentes europeas que otorga la EPO.
